Preparing Hair System for Install
Removing, cleaning, prepping, and installing a hair system is a journey—one with many critical steps. Each phase must be done correctly to ensure the best outcome for both the system and the client.
That’s why we’re here: to help you master one of the most important aspects of hair systems—preparing your client for installation using Nova Hair® prep products.
Preparation is the foundation of a successful hair system experience. Without proper prep, installations can fail, causing adhesives to slip or loosen and ultimately leading to discomfort or dissatisfaction for the wearer.
Preparation Starts With:
1. Bond Breaker Shampoo
Once the hair system and adhesive have been fully removed from the scalp, the first step in preparation is thorough scalp cleansing—and that’s where Bond Breaker Shampoo comes in.
Formulated specifically for professional use, Bond Breaker removes the initial layer of residue left behind after removal, including:
-
Residual adhesive and stickiness
-
Solvent remover
-
Sweat and oil
-
Product buildup
It cleanses deeply while scrubbing the scalp completely clean, making it an all-in-one preparation tool.
This may be the most important step in preparing your client for installation.
Bond Breaker Shampoo is for professional use only and is not recommended for daily use.
2. 99% Alcohol
A truly clean scalp is essential for a secure, long-lasting bond. After removing surface residue with Bond Breaker, the next step is a deep cleanse using 99% alcohol.
99% Alcohol removes:
-
Dust and dirt
-
Oils
-
Dead skin cells
-
Micro-particles that can interfere with adhesion
This step smooths and prepares the bonding surface, ensuring tapes and liquid adhesives can fully adhere. Without a perfectly clean surface, adhesives are more likely to fail, causing the system to loosen sooner than expected.
3. Scalp Protector or Max Hold Sport
Heat, humidity, and sweat can seriously impact installation—especially in warm or humid climates. This is where scalp protection becomes essential.
After the scalp is fully clean and trimmed—but before applying adhesive—apply a layer of Scalp Protector.
Scalp protectors:
-
Shield the skin from irritation caused by sweat, oils, and adhesives
-
Extend adhesive hold time
-
Create a clean, protective barrier for bonding
Nova Hair® offers two options depending on the client’s needs:
-
Scalp Protector
-
Max Hold Sport (ideal for active lifestyles and heavy perspiration)
4. Just-Rite Positioning Spray
The final step occurs during the most delicate moment of installation—placing the unit.
Accurate placement is critical for a natural look and comfortable wear. Normally, once adhesive makes contact, the system is locked in place. Just-Rite Positioning Spray changes that.
Each spray temporarily delays adhesion, allowing you to:
-
Adjust placement
-
Achieve the ideal position
-
Avoid mistakes
Just-Rite evaporates completely, requiring no cleanup.
